All The Way Up
Throughout the years, we have witnessed the amazing evolution of Afrocentric fashion. We have transitioned from making just simple outfits to complex garments that are worn on our most important occasions. Our African prints are an integral part of our existence, covering us on cold nights, serving as comfort on sad days, and becoming our wings on days of triumph. It is incredible how these fabrics have transformed into works of art, reflecting our culture and identity in every way.
We owe this achievement to the unwavering commitment and dedication of countless individuals who share our passion for safeguarding our cultural heritage. Without their tireless efforts, this would not have been possible.
Who Caught Our Attention?
We were thrilled to highlight some amazing brands as our Look of the Week in April. Take a look at the following brands that caught our attention:
Pettre Taylor
Pettre Taylor is a fashion brand that was launched in 2019 by Peter Acha, a visionary founder and creative director.
His passion for sustainable living and his Nigerian heritage have deeply influenced his approach to fashion and design.
The brand's narrative revolves around an urban traveller who fearlessly embraces the unknown, engaging in cultural dialogue and exchange through the powerful medium of clothes. Pettre Taylor embraces an eclectic mix of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design, resulting in garments that are both timeless and fashion-forward.
Sustainability lies at the heart of the brand, and the company is committed to employing eco-friendly practices throughout the production process.
Sarakule
Sarakule is a remarkable brand that draws inspiration from the beauty and diversity of Africa. The brand is based in Mali and is dedicated to showcasing the rich culture and heritage of Africa through the use of noble fabrics. Sarakule's exquisite designs are a testament to the brand's commitment to creating timeless pieces that reflect the essence of African style and craftsmanship. Each garment is a masterpiece that not only celebrates Africa's heritage but also promotes sustainability and ethical fashion. Sarakule is more than just a brand; it is a symbol of Africa's resilience, creativity, and beauty.
We Did a Thing
If you are active on social media you most likely would have come across people saying they did a thing. It is a subtle way of introducing whatever surprise they have in store.
Well, at G99, we are excited to announce that we also “did a thing”! We recently conducted our first-ever “Meet the Designer” interview with the incredibly talented Hortense Mbea, who is the founder and creative director of Afropian.
In her latest collection, Bamun, A Royal Wedding. We are given the opportunity to experience the grandeur of a royal wedding in Cameroon.
